Today I received an Email from Microsoft announces that Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter which I posted for it while it was beta ( read here ) is now in a Release Candidate stage.
New in the Release Candidate
In addition to the capabilities that were delivered as part of the beta release, the MVMC Release Candidate:
- Converts and deploys virtual machines from VMware hosts to Hyper-V hosts running:
- Windows Server 2012 Release Candidate
- Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 Release Candidate
- Adds virtual network interface cards (NICs) to the converted virtual machine on Hyper-V
- Configures dynamic memory on the converted virtual machine
- Supports migration of virtual machines that are hosted on a vSphere cluster
- Supports migration of virtual machines to a Hyper-V host that is part of a failover cluster
- Enables Microsoft partners to cobrand the tool so that it incorporates their logos

Is it possible to convert .VHDs to VMX?!
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know that .VMX represents the configuration file for a VMware based virtual machine ( http://www.vmware.com/support/ws55/doc/ws_learning_files_in_a_vm.html ) , so I think you meant by your question converting from .VHD ( Hyper-V based Virtual disk ) to .VMDK ( VMware based virtual disk ) , if this the answer is NO ! . This tool was designed to allow conversion of VMware virtual machines to Hyper-V ones. If you want to do a .VHD to .VMDK conversion you can go with StarWind Free V2V Converter or utilize WinImage as explained at MyDigitalLife blog ( http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-convert-and-import-vhd-to-vmdk-vmware/ )
